Chasing the Sun
I’m pretty sure I have a new addiction. Sunsets and sunrises. Ok, so not a new addiction, just something I’m realizing I’m more and more fascinated with as I’m getting older.
I’m addicted to wanting to be in their gloriously beautiful presence and taking 5 minute mental vacations with them. Letting the suns rays take every freak out, fear, anxiety and stress off my mind even if only just for that moment.
I asked my dad one day last fall if the sunsets had always been so beautiful or if he thought it was our current climate & environmental conditions, smog, fires, pollution, etc., suddenly making me notice them. Had I been missing these all along, or was this a new phenom?
He simply said, “they’ve always been this beautiful, Phanneth, you’ve just been too busy and missing it.”
How’s that for wake up call?! God and my dad telling me to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n and open my eyes and see the world around me. Slow down and take the words, “running late” out of my vocabulary.
Picture myself back on the beach in Sihanoukville allowing my muscles to relax and let the wind take my worries and crazy hair up and away!
Let my boys play outside late as the sun sets over their piles of dirt and toys strewn about the yard.
And play with them! Who cares that it’s bath time? Who cares how late it really is? Just stop!
And enjoy the sunshine. And chase the sun.
Where will your 5 minute mental vacation take you today? Happy Friday, my Friends!
